Package Design Process: I began by making a list of classic Indian/Diwali colors and motifs to potentially use. My eye was drawn to rangoli- designs created on the floor with colorful sand- as well as traditional configurations of diyas (candles used around Diwali) with marigold flowers. I found several images of typical Diwali colors and elements and created a moodboard of my findings.
I focused on the overall shapes and symmetry of parts I liked from the rangoli and diya/flower setups, and simplified them into a mandala-like design. For my representation of the diyas, I incorporated a peacock feather appearance, a significant motif in Indian culture. In the corners, I added the leaves I’d seen appear multiple times on other Tagmo boxes. I inititially settled on a simple orange background with yellow lines; however, I received feedback that there should be more color and solid fill. I then tried out multiple color combinations, wanting something that would contrast with the warm tones. I landed on green and blue, enhancing the peacock feather element of my design, and tried out multiple color patterns before reaching the final result. This project challenged me to use my full creative thinking abilities, as well as the challenge of making it adaptable to multiple sized boxes.
