Year: 2024
Client: Google Boulder and Imprint Events Group
Brief: To design an invitation poster and digital graphic for Google Boulder’s annual holiday party, with the theme and title “A Night in the Movies.” I was challenged to create two different visual aethetics for the deliverables, while including particular text and utilizing Google’s brand colors.
Process: After thoroughly reviewing the presentation briefing about the event, I began writing down some elements I wanted to include in each design. I picked out two aesthetics from the brief’s inspiration photos, film list, and activities: “old Hollywood” and “80’s neon.”
I chose “old Hollywood” for the poster design, drawing inspiration from vintage movie posters and elements like film reels and old cameras, while also incorporating the flatiron mountains to tie it to Boulder. I chose “80’s neon” for the digital graphic as I felt the neon colors would better suit a digital format. I took inspiration from flashy movie theater marquees, and chose a more intricate design as I knew it would be displayed on large screens where the details would survive.
After planning and thumbnail sketches, I sent four drafts per design to Imprint Events for their creative team to review. Once I had been given feedback and constructive criticism, I polished up two drafts per design using Procreate, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator and sent them again, where they were forwarded to the team at Google to choose the drafts they wanted me to proceed with. After that, I finished up both designs and went back and forth with both Imprint and Google to fine tune the details.
